Modes of
Transportation
I. on

Some people don't drive to nearby places. Instead
they walk or ride bikes on the sidewalk. Other ways to travel on the sidewalk
are roller blades, skateboards, and scooters. These are normally used for fun
in neighborhoods.

II. in
the air
Sometimes people need to travel very long distances
in a short amount of time. They use airplanes for this. Airplanes fly high
above the ground at super fast speeds. Helicopters are not as fast as airplanes,
but still fly high above the ground. News-people fly over busy streets in
helicopters to tell adults what traffic is like or if there are any big wrecks.
Police use helicopters to fly over the woods to help find people are lost.
A. planes
B. helicopters
III. on
tracks
A long time ago, there were no long roads to connect
towns because people had no cars or trucks to drive on them. Instead, people
went from place to place on trains. Some trains carry people. Other trains
carry stuff like building materials. Trains are not as popular now as they used
to be, but you can still ride them all over the United States.

IV. on
the water
Sometimes people need to travel over oceans or
rivers. For this, they travel in large boats such as sailboats or cruise ships.
Ships also carry stuff across oceans to other countries. These large boats that
carry stuff are called cargo ships. Kayaks and canoes are small boats for one
or two people to use in lakes or rivers. These small boats are mainly used for
fun, not for travel.

B. cargo

C. kayaks

V. on
the streets
The most popular way to move from place to place is
to drive on the street. People drive to school or work in their cars and trucks.
Cars fit more people, so they are great for family trips to the grocery store.
Trucks can carry more stuff in the back, so they are great for moving stuff
around town or going camping. Another important type of street vehicle is the
service vehicle. These help keep us safe. Police cars chase down bad guys. Fire
trucks rush to save burning buildings. Ambulances get hurt people to doctors
fast.

I love the way you grouped the modes of transportation. You tailored every part of this lesson for kindergarteners specifically and did it flawlessly
ReplyDeleteYou were very prepared and knew what you were talking about. You were also very aware of what children in kindergarten may or may not be familiar with.
ReplyDeleteGreat presentation on your lesson. This will be very fun and engaging for students. It will be very informational as well!
ReplyDeleteIt never occurred to me that modes of transportation would be a method that kids had to be taught. I feel like it would be a parents duty to explain that, but I think it is a good idea to include that in the classroom. I like how you organized the difference of methods as well!
ReplyDeleteI love that you are incorporating safety into your lesson. This is completely relevant to the students.
ReplyDeleteVery informational and appealing lesson that you planned. In what ways, how would you incorporate things that girls can identify steamrollers or cranes by making it interesting? Great job !
ReplyDeleteModes of transportation is a great lesson to teach. Great idea! Incorporating discussion tactics in a kindergarten lesson is a great quality to give your students. Great idea to incorporate a song into your lesson!

ReplyDeleteI love your concept map. The pictures you provided are a great way to get Kindergarteners to make connections to what they actually see. It's also very eye appealing. I also liked your hyperlinks and how you would have taught them. :)
ReplyDeleteKids love any type of moving object! Great topic.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great lesson for kindergarten. I think it will be not only very interesting and fun but also it is information that is important to a child's everyday life rather than the strictly school information. I think it is good to stick with the everyday life activities with the younger children.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a good topic for a kindergarten age class and also a good idea to inform girls, who are less familiar with the modes of transportation. I liked how you included the modes of transportation for not only travel but also shipping products.
ReplyDeleteI like the music/singing activity. I think that helps kids/people remember words, phrases, ideas, facts, etc. when we sing.
ReplyDeleteVery creative way to group your ideas on the concept map, I enjoyed looking at it. This is a great topic as well, because students really do need to know this information. This is something I have never considered teaching to my students, so I am glad I got a new topic that would be beneficial to teach.
